Louise Marguerite Dufour
March 20, 1941 – July 13, 2022
“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. You’ll never know dear how much I love you. Please don’t my sunshine away.” This was one of our mother’s favourite songs, and it is our sentiment today: You’ll never know how much we loved you, mom.
Our dear mom, kokum, auntie, cousin, and friend: Louise Marguerite Dufour, nee McCallum (Calon), born March 20, 1941, in Sakitawak (Ile a la Crosse), Saskatchewan, journeyed to her heavenly home on July 13, 2022. As sad as this is, we know she is back in the arms of her husband, who she recently lost, and they are now dancing up a storm in heaven. She leaves behind children: Allan, Vince (Sandra), Connie (Keanu Reeves), Arnolda (Jeff), Andrea (Shane), and Adrienne (Gary). 27 Grandchildren, 15 Great-grandchildren, sister: Annette Harrison, Cousins: Yvonne Longworth, Bernice Sinclair, Dorothy Dubrule, Delphina (Nôcikwêw) Corrigal, Eliza Aubichon, Jimmy (Cinêw) Durocher, Marlene Brisebois, Special friends – difåň Tony & Vicky Durocher, and many others who knew and loved Louise Calon Dufour. Many family members predeceased Louise, but most notably was her loving husband of 52 years Arnold Charles Dufour (January 26, 2022), beloved daughter Bonnie Rose Ahenakew, parents Rosa/Wasaskwîcos (Daigneault) and George McCallum, siblings: Harry, Alec, Norbert, Louis Martin and Louise.
Louise was a quiet, beautiful soul whose proudest moment was receiving her degree in Social Work in 1990 from the University of Regina. She was a woman of many talents, from music to cooking. As a child, she was often asked to sing at Mass on Christmas Eve, and as an adult, she ran a successful restaurant on highway 11 by Duck Lake. During the 80’s, she worked diligently to receive her SW degree while caring for her husband, who was a paraplegic and raising their children. After graduating, she worked many years at St. Mary’s school and retired after 20 years with the Kokum’s Program at the Saskatoon Community Clinic. All this aside, Louise’s largest celebrations came through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. With a twinkle in her eye and a gentle smile, she would often boast, tell stories or ask for prayer over them. She was never shy to share something wonderful about each one of them. She was a proud Kokum who adored all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As a family, we would like to send out a special thank you to the CCAs with Homecare on the Westside, who are amazing, and the CCAs, nurses and Dr’s at Glengarda Hospice who helped us through this difficult time. We invite you to join us in remembering the life of Louise: Visitation & Luncheon Service – Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 10:00 am at Courts of Praise, 2333 Herman Ave, Saskatoon, SK (Cremation to follow).

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Louise. She was such a lovely person who I came to know through her wonderful work at the Saskatoon Community Clinic. I’ll miss her kindness, her laugh, the twinkle in her eye, and her extraordinary compassion towards others. My thoughts are with your family at this difficult time.
I remember Louise as well for her kind heart and compassion for others. I too worked at the Community Clinic when Louise worked there, but that was only a part of her life. Sending condolences to her family that she loved so dearly.💕
