Sonia Zacharias
June 5, 1954 – May 9, 2022
Sonia Beverly (Chudyk) Zacharias passed away Monday, May 9th, 2022 at St. Paul’s hospital in Saskatoon after a 2-year battle with cancer. She was accepted into the arms of her lord while surrounded by all her children and many other loved ones.
She was born on June 5th, 1954 in Saskatoon to Peter and Pearl Chudyk. She started her life on the family farm south of Langham. Her parents, brother and herself moved to Ranger, Saskatchewan where she started elementary school. At age 7 they moved to Arelee, Saskatchewan for a short period of time. At age 10 they moved to Hague, Saskatchewan where Sonia soon received a baby sister. She attended Hague school until she moved to Saskatoon to enter the work force. Her career as a working woman didn’t last long and she returned to Hague.
Sonia met Menno in Hague and got married November 4, 1972. Sonia gave birth to their first child Michael Lee Peter on January 23, 1973. They welcomed their second son Carey Devon James on September 14, 1975. Sonia and Menno then chose to move to Langham and started building their dream home. Shortly after the completion on Sonia’s forever home they welcomed their 3 child and first daughter Charity Michelle Leanne on November 25, 1981. On February 16, 1984 they welcomed their 4th and final child Melody Robyn Shaleen which completed their family.
Sonia lived a happy life as a homemaker and was active in her community. She had a great passion for singing and theater and had the voice of an angel. Some of her greatest joys in life included spending time with family, cooking, being at the lake, late night campfires and bringing too much food with her everywhere she went. Sonia had an infectious laugh and was always the life of the party.
Through the years, Sonia’s family continued to grow. She was gifted with 15 wonderful grandchildren and one great grandson who she was able to meet on April 8, 2022. Michael gave her Christian, Ryan, Marina, Jessica and Alicia. Carey gave her Braedyn, Bailey, Teagan, and Tannen. Charity gave her Austin, Bryson, Constantine and December, and Melody gave her Koby and Aspyn. Her oldest grandson Braedyn gave her her first great grandson Asher.
Sonia was predeceased by her father Peter Chudyk, parents-in-law Helen and Peter Zacharias, brother-in-laws Joel Johnson, Jake Zacharias, Peter Zacharias and nieces Jessi Zacharias and Lacey Sands.
Sonia truly was the light in the room and will be missed forever by many people. Our lives have changed but we can be at peace knowing she is no longer suffering and having to fight so hard. She gave it all she had but unfortunately had to leave this world to be with her saviour.

I am so sorry to hear of Sonia’s passing. I know she fought hard the last 2 years, and I know family meant the workd to her! I only knew Sonia from the Kangham Theatrical Group that we were involved in for a few years. She also was my friend on Facebook and we kept in touch periodically. She was always so joyful, and made me feel so welcome! Condolences to all the family and friends of Sonia! Singing in heaven!! ❤
Oh Sonia. I am so, so sad that I didn’t talk to you on a more personal level than just expressing my condolences to you on Facebook with your cancer struggles. To all of your family Les and I extend our most heartfelt condolences. I am still in disbelief. I guess I just did not realize that Sonia was that ill. Even tho we haven’t hung around in years we were best buds growing up in Hague. I will always remember those days with you my friend. Again our deepest sympathies! Hugs and love to all of you!!❤️❤️
Our heartfelt and sincere condolences on Sonia’s passing to her family and loved ones. She and Darrell acted together for many years in the Langham Drama Club. She was a vibrant and lovely person, always friendly, she will be missed by many. Sonia, indeed, had the voice of an angel and we were lucky enough to hear her sing many times, She will be “Dancing in the Sky and singing in the Angels choir!” Rest In Peace , Sonia💔
