Agatha Peters

January 31, 1939 – March 11, 2022

Agatha Peters was born to Isaac and Anna Fehr on January 31, 1939 on the family farm near Arma, SK. The family moved to Hague in 1948. Agatha, or Aggie as she was known to family and friends, loved singing, social studies, art, and sports in school.

At age 14, Agatha stopped school to work for her Grandmother and at other jobs in the country. In 1957, Aggie moved to Saskatoon to work as a live-in nanny and housekeeper for Mrs. Jerry Rose. The Rose family became very important to Aggie. She was a beloved part of the family and they remained connected over the years. Aggie lived with them until she married Ben Peters on August 29, 1960, at St. Thomas Wesley Church in Saskatoon. Mrs. Rose played a big part in helping Ben and Aggie with their wedding.

In May 1971, Ben and Aggie adopted their daughter Brenda. It was the best Mother’s Day gift for Agatha!

Family holidays found Ben, Agatha and Brenda camping and fishing at several lakes, as well as spending time at Big Shell Lake at the cabin that Ben helped his brother Bill build. They also enjoyed trips to BC to visit friends. Agatha always loved going for rides in the country, time with family was always cherished. In their earlier years, Ben and Aggie loved to go dancing, especially at Danceland, one of their favourite spots. In later years, they grew to love golfing together, spending many hours on the Waldheim golf course with Ben’s sister Margaret and brother-in-law Abe. Once they moved to Bethany Manor in 2016, Ben and Aggie often spent time with friends and family, sharing meals, visiting, and playing games.

One of Aggie’s favourite places was their home of 44 years – her very own castle in the city. She prided herself in her backyard garden, tending to it every year from spring until fall. One of her favourite things to do on a summer morning was to take her coffee and breakfast and sit in the backyard, enjoying the morning sun in her private oasis.

Agatha faithfully sold Avon products for many years. She loved her regular customers, meeting new people and making lifelong friends through those connections. Agatha took pride in her work and excelled in sales, receiving top sales awards over the years.

Singing and music was always something Agatha loved. In her younger years, Aggie and her sister Ann sang on the Let’s Go West radio program, as well as the weekly TV program, Town and Country TV Show with Greg Barnsley. Once she started attending church, she was able to serve the Lord using her musical talents of singing and playing the guitar.

In 1977, the family started attending West Portal Church. Ben and Aggie committed their lives to the Lord on February 25, 1978, with Pastor Abe Klassen, and were baptized later that same year. Agatha’s favourite Bible passage was Psalm 139. It gave her comfort knowing God was always with her. In her words, “I love it because it says no matter what I have done or where I have been, God has always been there. No matter where I am, He knows where I am and He knows where I am going. I cannot hide from Him even if I tried.”

Church was very important to Agatha and, over the years, she became involved in many different areas – church choir, girls’ club, care groups, Bible studies, and Ladies’ Fellowship leadership. As a couple, Ben and Agatha helped for many years with the Lunch Committee, the church pie table at the yearly MCC Sale, regularly folded bulletins for Sunday services, and attended seniors’ programming. These were all learning and growing experiences for Agatha, where she learned that God was her strength and it was He who gave her the ability to serve in different areas of her beloved church.

Agatha was diagnosed with cancer in the spring of 2021. Her unwavering faith in Jesus was her strength and hope throughout the entire journey, even as her health failed. “One day at a time, sweet Jesus” was how she lived. She planned on living until the Lord said it was time. Even in her final days before her strength gave way, she would raise her hands in worship and prayer to her Heavenly Father.

Agatha will be remembered by her husband Ben Peters; daughter Brenda Peters; brothers and sisters Helen Sanders, Ann Fast, sister-in-law Marlene Fehr, Peter and Gail Fehr, Johnny and Sarah Fehr, Sarah and Gordon Currah, Ron Fehr, Jean Fehr; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Issac and Anna Fehr; brothers David Fehr and Bill Fehr; and brother-in-law Louie Sander.

A very special thank you to the absolutely wonderful caregivers at JCL Care Foundation. We will always be grateful for the compassion and love you showed in caring for mom/Aggie in her final days. You were a gift from God when our family needed it most.

Funeral Service will be held at West Portal Church, 3134 33rd Street West, Saskatoon, SK on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements entrusted to Stefan & Katrina Funk at Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.

We always loved seeing Ben & Aggie at church on Sundays. Often I had the privilege of seeing Aggie on Fridays as well because she came to fold the bulletins I had printed for the next Sunday service. Aggie was beautiful both inside and out. She had such a gentle, quiet personality and it was a pleasure to spend time with her. Aggie and Ben raised a beautiful caring daughter who has kept in touch with our adult children. Ben and Brenda, we are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.

We lived a couple of doors north of Ben and Aggie, Always a wave and smile and I swear I could smell her flowers in her back yard when I walked out my back door. May she rest in peace.
