Jakie Siemens

November 16, 1946 – January 5, 2022

It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jakie Siemens on January 5th, 2022, due to ongoing complications of Muscular Dystrophy. With his loving wife, Sylvia, by his side, Jakie passed away very peacefully at his home at Parkridge Centre in Saskatoon. He was born to parents Henry and Agatha Siemens on November 16th, 1946, in Drake, SK. Jakie enjoyed an active childhood in and around the Drake area. He spent time playing sports and had a soft spot for his pet pig Porky. After high school in Lanigan, Jakie worked a few different jobs before meeting Sylvia. Jake and Sylvia were married a year later in 1968. Together, they started a family with their three sons, Jason, Tim and Jeff.

Jakie spent many years in sales, most notably selling cars, which he loved. He also loved being outside. Whether it was camping, golfing, or just caring for his lawn, the outdoors seemed to be when he was in his element the most. But it was the mountains where he truly found solace and peace.

He loved his family dearly and was very proud of his boys. He would never miss anything that they were involved in, and always proved to be their biggest supporter. With the arrival of his grandchildren, Jakie knew that he was greatly blessed. And yet, as his family, we knew that he was the real blessing to us.

Jakie is survived by his wife Sylvia (Kehler); their children Jason (Jenn), Tim (Angela), and Jeff (Jennifer); and his grandkids Natalie, Lexi, Maelle, Brody, Jada, Chelsey, and Wesley. He is also survived by his sister Ruth (Helmer) Hoglund; as well as his in-law siblings Marianne, Judy, Carol, and Paul; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Jakie was predeceased by parents Henry and Agatha Siemens; brother Art (Jeanette); and sister Anne (John) Braun.

A Memorial Service will be held at West Portal Church in Saskatoon on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 1:00 pm.

Current Saskatchewan Health regulations and guidelines will be followed and adhered to.

The family would like to thank the staff at Parkridge Centre in Saskatoon for their compassionate care for our beloved Jakie.

Memorial donations in memory of Jakie can be made to either Telemiracle, 2217C Hanselman Court, Saskatoon, SK S7L 6A8 or Parkridge Centre Quality Of Life, 100 Gropper Crescent, Saskatoon, SK S7M 5N9.

Arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.

My heart goes out to you, Sylvia and Jason, Tim, Jeff and families. We were very sad to hear that Jakie had passed. We will remember him for his kidding around and always making us smile and laugh. He was a ray of sunshine and loved his BBQ’s at the Forestry Farm. We also enjoyed all the camping times. They were the best of times. We offer our condolences and prayers. We will miss Jakie. 💗 Love, Henry and Ann

Carrie and I pass our sympathies on to you and your family, Sylvia, and also to you, Ruth and family. Jakie was a childhood friend of mine. We made up two thirds of our grade in our country school – Kneller! It was always exciting when our parents visited, and we could play together! We wish you God’s peace.

  • Bruce, Linda Siemens and Family Posted January 11, 2022 9:35 pm

Thoughts and prayers from all of us to you Aunt Sylvia and your family. So sad Jakie is no longer with us in body but he will always be with us in all the fond memories. Jakie was to me what Drake , Family gathering, Saskatchewan life was all about. Jakie was one of the most kind hearted people I knew he reminded me so much of Art his older brother ( Dad). I always felt that Jakie enjoyed the simple real important things in life, family, a good laugh, nature, love. He was a good example for so many people on how to quietly contribute to family , friends and society. We will all miss Uncle Jake. God bless you Sylvia for you tireless love you gave Jakie. May your memories and family be a comfort to you as time goes on.
    Love Bruce, Linda and Family

    • Jeff Siemens Posted January 20, 2022 2:32 pm

Thank you Bruce and Linda. I can hardly read your words without being overcome with emotion. It means so much to me to know how others would see my dad. For me, he was, of course, my hero. It is so encouraging to hear the perspective of others and the appreciation that you had for him. Thank you again. And thanks for sending a message for his 75th. It meant a lot to him.

    Sylvia, Jason, Tim, and Jeff
Thoughts and prayers for your huge loss. Jakie was such a joy to have around and always made people laugh. Our family Always loved when you guys would come up to the cabin (The Scherman Shack) and help build and enjoy it. Jakie and Sylvia were the ones that named the cabin “The Scherman Shack”!!!! Got the sign to prove it!! Many visits were ALWAYS filled with Jakie’s unmistakeable laugh. Many card games, many pranks, many drinks, and lots of water skiing in the summer, and snowmobiling in the winter. Fun every single time!! The memory of Jakie will always live on, he will be greatly missed and now he is looking down on us all. God bless Sylvia and the rest of the family. Love always Ron, Leanne, Blake, Cole, and Rhae

    • Jeff Siemens Posted January 20, 2022 2:34 pm

Thanks Ron. The Scherman Shack was almost like a retreat for my dad. A place to get away and enjoy himself. Thanks to you and your family for allowing us to share that great place and even better memories. All the best!
