Justina Peters (nee Wiens)

June 13, 1930 – December 25, 2021

Justina has moved on. She received a better offer and will not be returning. She will be attending a family reunion with her husband of 61 years, Herbert Peters, her parents Johann and Helena Wiens, brothers John, Jacob and Henry as well as sisters Mary and Helen.  Her sisters Louise and Erna do not have current plans to join.

In her exit interview, she wanted to point out her nurse’s training at Winnipeg’s Misericordia Hospital that she did along side her older sister Mary.  It was notable for her meeting future husband Herbert who was attending CMBC on the other side of the Assiniboine river.

Justina was proud of her six years Mennonite Central Committee work with the Hopi in Arizona. On that point, she would appreciate that anyone wishing to donate in her name should do so to MCC.

It was recognized that she had been significantly engaged in the life of the church.  This included teaching Sunday School, as a Girls Club leader, and as Deacon.  She later took on the role of arranging worship services at Bethany Manor. For many years she volunteered at local nursing homes which often including reading to groups at those facilities.

She enjoyed travel with the family which included RVing across much of Canada and the US.  She often spoke of the family’s 1971-72 year in England.  Her wrote extensively on family genealogy and was able to retrace some of those stories and meet with relatives on a trip to the former U.S.S.R.

At home she enjoyed a large vegetable garden and fruit trees. It was common for another family to be invited over on Sunday to enjoy whatever had been roasting in the oven during the service.

She understood that leaving during COVID would mean her children Daniel (Mai Lynn), Paul (Carolyn), Irene, Frieda Nase (Steve) and David (Michelle) as well as her grandchildren and the adopted family of Ten and Tam Nguyen might have to make alternate farewell arrangements at some future date.

Her final thoughts were that she loved you all and wishes you all the best.

Arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.

Mrs. Peters is a very special woman to me! And we had lots of great visits, and she loved telling me all her stories about her nursing career. She was very proud of her career in Morden, Manitoba. She told me about how the doctors ask for her to assist them in the operating room because she was so precise and organized! She gave of herself to adopt 2 little girls and raise them with love and patience. Thank you for giving me one of my best friends. Her faith in God was unwavering even when there were bumps in her path. Hugs and love Mrs. Peters.

I remember Mrs.Peters being my girls club teacher as well as our family enjoying some of those dinners roasting in the oven during the service. She was always very kind and had such kind eyes.

Dan, Paul, Irene, Frieda & David, I don’t have contact information for any of you so I hope that this will serve as an alternative way of making contact. I have very fond memories of each of you and I want to offer my condolences on the loss of your dear mother. She trained with my sister Beryl at the Misericordia in Winnipeg a long time ago now. . Shortly after coming to Saskatoon we found ourselves in a Bible Study group that met from home to home. Your mother was always a very important part of that group and her thoughts contributed much to the discussion. One of the lovely things about meeting in your folk’s home was the interchange with their lovely kids. Another was the lunch that your mom served after the discussion. They were great. I know that she was involved in contributing to other people’s lives in many ways and many lives were enriched. Now she has indeed gone on to a great reunion and then it will be a party waiting for the rest of us to come. Bless you all.
