John J. Arendt
March 17, 1928 – July 14, 2021
John J. Arendt of Saskatoon passed peacefully into the presence of Jesus on July 14, 2021 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. John was born in Waldheim, Sask. on March 17, 1928 to Johann and Sara (Block) Arendt.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife Frieda; his parents Johann and Sara Arendt; one grandson Karsten; one daughter-in-law Katharine; brothers Martin Arendt, Peter Arendt and Abe Arendt; one infant brother and one infant sister.
He is survived by two sons, John David (Kim) and Daryl Mark (Rowena); one granddaughter Shaya; brother Henry (Mary) Arendt of Winnipeg; and sisters Anne Dueck of Kelowna, Mary Fehr of Kelowna and Margaret Lind of Abbotsford.
At the age of 14, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour. He had a keen interest in missions and ministry. In 1961, he left for Regina to upgrade his education. There he met Frieda Neufeld. On Oct. 27, 1962 they were married. The following year, they moved to Manitoba where John continued his education.
Since the mission board was low on funds and churches all seemed to have pastors, John was advised to take teachers’ training. He enjoyed teaching for 28 years. During that time, he took evening classes and summer school in order to achieve his university degrees. He was also active in the church, teaching Sunday School, preaching and serving on various boards.
After retirement, he graduated from seminary with his master’s degree. The next two summers they served as interim summer pastor in Cranberry Portage, Man. His home church then ordained him to the gospel ministry and asked John and Frieda to take on the assignment of coordinating the ministry of care. That assignment was a joy and highlight in their retirement.
In 2000, they relocated to Saskatoon, and in 2007, Frieda went to be with the Lord. The following years were lonely at times, yet John never asked God why He had taken Frieda to His Heavenly Home.
The Funeral Service for John will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1636 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon, SK on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Brendon Gibson officiating. A private interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. To watch the live stream please go to www.ebap.ca/funerals. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John’s name to The Bridge Saskatoon or to the charity of your choice.
On behalf of the family, special thanks to the staff in Palliative Care at St. Paul’s Hospital, the caring team at The Bentley, Rev. Brendon, Ernie Atkinson, John’s Emmanuel Baptist Church family, and the team at Dalmeny Funeral Home.

This world needs more people like John Arendt
John was a special friend in Jesus. Though he was in pain, he would say, “Am I complaining? No!” and “It’s all part of the deal!” A privilege to have had some small part in his life, and through which I’m sure he blessed others. Psalm 116:15–
15 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.
