August 11, 1918 – February 2, 2021

Hilda Alice Jacobsen was born August 11, 1918 in Melfort, SK and died on February 2, 2021.  She grew up on the farm in South Star during the great depression. She worked her way through high school, ending in Winnipeg, MB.  She became a registered nurse graduating from the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg, received the Award in Theory. She worked as a nursing sister in the Deer Lodge Military Hospital in Winnipeg for three years. She took a postgraduate course in Operating Room Surgery at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, Quebec.  After three years working in Montreal, she moved to Yonkers, New York.  She worked in New York City in the New York University Hospital as an OR nurse, becoming head nurse in the operating room.  While in New York, she learned to drive, bought a car and after fifteen years in New York, June 1973, she drove with a packed car and the aid of AAA triptic Victoria, BC. (Of interest – total milage from Yonkers, NY to Richmond Ave. in Victoria, BC was 4,080.4 miles. Total gasoline was 82.45 from Yonkers to Swift Current – 2,423.6 Miles).  She continued nursing, mostly in the OR until retirement at the age of 65 minus two months. 

Hilda was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church at Star City, SK.  She was a faithful believer in Jesus as her Savior, and faithful in prayers for her family.  She was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church in Victoria, BC, where she was involved in many events.

She moved to Saskatoon to be near family where she lived at Luther Tower and then a private care home until her passing on February 2, 2021 in Comfort Care in City Hospital, Saskatoon, SK.

Hilda was predeceased by her father Daniel Eivind Jacobsen; her mother Inger Jacobson; her sister Margit Olson; brother-in-law Gustav Olson; sister Lilly Jacobsen; brothers Eivind and Leif Jacobsen; niece Crystal Siemens; great nephew David Hermanson; and great niece Katrina Hermanson.

Hilda is survived by her nephew Edmund (Marilyn) Olson; niece Arlie (Derwood) Hermanson; as well as numerous great nieces and nephews.

Hilda lived a long life full of many experiences and adventures.

A private family viewing  will take place on Thursday, February 4, 2021.  A Graveside Memorial Service will take place on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery (Also known as South Star Cemetery) in the RM of Star City, SK. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.

    I Just learned about Hilda’s passing. We became friends when we met at Grace Lutheran Church in Victoria and kept in touch lately by me sending postcards to her. My friend went to visit her in 2018 and took some video of her.for me.Hilda was an inspiration to me with her strong independent spirit. Miss you my friend.
