Anna Wiebe

Anna Wiebe

March 30, 1957 – May 5, 2020

Anna Wiebe was born in Swift Current on March 30, 1957 to Anna Dyck (Dyck), (March 16, 1915 – February 5, 2001) and Abraham Dyck (September 30, 1902 – March 28, 1962).  Anna was the thirteenth child of the family including; Agnes (Albert Gerlach), John (Susan Ginter), Anna (passed away at 2 ½ years), Abraham (Salma Schmunk, Anna Chamberlin), Jacob (Evelyn Fouracres), Martin (Dianne MacDonald), Maria (Marx Luepke), Helen (Paul Skjui), Isaac, Margaret (Martin Dyck), Corney (Lynn Bouvin), Peter (div-Ruth Hayden) and lastly Anna (Paul Wiebe).

In her first year of life, Anna was sick with several illnesses.  It was a hardship for her parents to care for Anna as they both were dealing with poor health.  Anna and Abraham learned of a couple Mary (Peters) and Jacob (Jake) Wiebe who did not have any children and desired to have a child.  There was an agreement made between the couples that Anna would be raised by Mary and Jake until circumstances changed for Anna’s parents.  Anna remained with the Wiebe’s and when Anna was eighteen years old, she changed her last name to Wiebe with the blessing of her mother, Anna.  Anna was blessed to have a good relationship with those of her siblings that understood the private family arrangement made for Anna.  Mary and Jake Wiebe were very good to Anna and dedicated themselves to her care and upbringing.

Anna was raised by Mary and Jake in a small house across from Elmwood Park.  There were many family gatherings with extended family at the park across the street.  Anna was proud of her Mennonite heritage, culture and fluently spoke Low German.  Anna was baptised at the Schoenfeld Mennonite Church east of Wymark, SK.

Growing up, Anna had close and meaningful relationships with her aunts on Mary’s side of the family including her Aunt Susie (Peters) Klassen and Agnetha (Peters) Dyck.  Aunt Susie lived with Anna, Mary and Jake for many years prior to her getting married.  The Wiebe’s visited often with Aunt Agnetha who had four sons (Anna’s cousins) who also had an influence on Anna, teaching her to have a good sense of humour and gave good advice when she asked for it.  They included Jake (Margaret) Dyck, Frank (Stella) Dyck, Martin (Elaine) Dyck and John (Verna) Dyck.

Anna was educated at Elmwood School and at Beattie Collegiate.  She furthered her education at the Cypress Hills Regional College where she earned a General Education Diploma (GED) and a Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) certificate.

Anna married Paul Wiebe on October 21, 1995.  Anna was a dedicated and loyal wife to Paul.  She was very proud to be married and gain another family including; Paul’s mother, Justina (John Wiebe) and step-father, Jack Zacharias, and siblings; Linda (Byron Holmes), Helen (Orval Beisel), Eva (Brian McAlester), Jay (Justina) Hank Hubert), Theresa (Glen Balzac), Margaret (Ron Hamell), and Henry Wiebe.

Anna is described by her husband and her sister, Maria, as being a hard worker.  Anna was employed at the Swift Current Nursing Home and later the Palliser Long Term Care facilities.  Anna drove school bus for the Chinook School Division; she was a taxi dispatcher and drove cab.  Later she and Paul had their own taxi cab and started a telephone service called the Swift Current Telephone Answering Service. Anna was instrumental in the success of their business right up until her health was compromised.

Anna enjoyed traveling.  She and a friend went to Nashville where they attended the Grand Ole Opry.  Anna and Paul enjoyed a trip to New Orleans and to Australia to visit a friend.  They visited family in Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton.  The other loves for Anna were her dogs, Porky and Amber and the last one she had was Oreo.  To her they were like family and she treated them accordingly.

Anna passed away in Saskatoon on May 5, 2020 and is laid to rest with her parents, Mary and Jake Wiebe, at the Schoenfeld Cemetery.  She is missed by family and friends but never forgotten.

Arrangements entrusted to DALMENY FUNERAL HOME 306-254-2022.

I’ve known Anna since she was a little girl. I didn’t realize she had moved away from Swift Current. Condolences to you Paul.
