Benjamin Goertzen
June 26, 1950 – March 21, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Benjamin Goertzen, on March 21, 2020 at the age of 69 years.
Ben was born to John and Annie Goertzen on June 26, 1950 and was the third of six children. He grew up on a farm in Gruenfeldt, Sk and attended the Embury School. Ben married Elizabeth (Betty) Neufeld, of Hochfeldt, Sk on March 14, 1970 and was baptized in May of 1977. Together they had 5 children Ben, Elaine, Brian, Amy and Elizabeth.
Ben’s passion was farming. He worked on his parents’ dairy as well as his own grain and livestock farm. At age 50, Ben went to work off the farm in a welding fabrication shop and later worked at ACE Manufacturing for his son Ben, until his retirement in 2017, where he enjoyed many hours in his beautiful flower gardens and watching the birds.
His family meant everything to him and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He loved spending quality time with each of them, creating many cherished memories. He will be dearly missed.
Ben is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Betty, children Ben (Sheri) Goertzen, Elaine (Faisal) Sayeed, Brian (Donna Smith) Goertzen, Amy (Abe) Doerksen, Elizabeth (Russell) Regier, grandchildren Braden (Melissa) Goertzen, Tanner Goertzen (Nicole Syrenne), great grandchild due to arrive in August, Emillie Sayeed, Marea Sayeed, Soleman Sayeed, Hanna Sayeed, Alia Sayeed, Tyler Smith, Reed Goertzen, Parker Doerksen, Natalie Doerksen, Aisa Regier, siblings Annie Braun, Mary Goertzen (Lee Spencer), Justine Heinrichs, John Goertzen (Corri Demeester). What a great guy, every time we ever spoke I felt better afterwards, his great sense of humour and his mastery of the low German language made me laugh every time.
