Esther Patkau went to be with her Lord and Saviour whom she loved and served faithfully during her ninety years of earthly pilgrimage. She passed away in the palliative care centre of St. Paul’s Hospital. She was born at Hanley, Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by her parents Kornelius and Katharina Paetkau; three sisters: Alice Rempel, Frieda Peters, Tina Harder; two sisters-in-law: Helen Patkau, Tina Patkau; two brothers-in-law: Nick Harder, Henry Peters. She is survived by three brothers: Henry (Mary) Patkau, Corny (Hilda) Patkau, Erwin (Helen) Patkau; brother-in-law Delmar Rempel and his special friend June Young. Esther attended and graduated from the following educational institutions: Rosthern Bible School; Rosthern Junior College; Canadian Mennonite Bible College; Bethel College in Newton Kansas; Saskatoon Business College; Lutheran Theological Seminary, Saskatoon. She served on many boards and commissions. Esther was missionary to Japan for twenty-three years. After her return to Canada she was assistant pastor at First Mennonite Church for almost seven years. She served on voluntary basis as hospital chaplain. She volunteered as loving care giver to children (and their families) in Saskatoon Cancer Centre. Since 2005 she served as Spiritual Coordinator at Bethany Manor till November 22, 2017. She was admitted to hospital on November 23, suffering from cancer. She will be fondly remembered by relatives and friends. There will be an evening service of remembrance of Esther at Bethany Manor Fellowship Centre, 110 La Ronge Road, Saskatoon, SK on Saturday, December 23, 2017, 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at First Mennonite Church, 418 Queen Street, Saskatoon. Interment to follow at the Hanley Mennonite Church Cemetery.
