John Newbold passed away peacefully on the morning of May 30, 2017 in his own home at the age of 103 with loving family at his side. He was born in Halcyonia district in 1914 to Abram and Florence Newbold. John lived his entire life in the Borden community and will be lovingly remembered as a true gentleman, a lifelong friend, a devoted family member. He married a local girl Lillian Rusk in 1937. Together they pursued a lifetime of successful farming. John loved sports and was an avid participant in curling, hockey and baseball. John had a lifelong love of music and was dancing until the end. With the help of family and friends, spring and fall were John’s favourite times of year. We would like to thank the many friends and neighbours who enriched John’s life. A special thank you to Cyril Saunders, the care givers and Sandy Sexsmith who made it possible for John to stay in his home as per his wishes. John is survived by his sister Olive Foley, his sister in-law Yvonne Newbold and his many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his wife Lillian, his parents and brothers Earl, Ted, Don and sister Ruth. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Borden Community Centre, 103 1st Ave, Bordon SK. Donations in Johns memory may be given to the Borden Museum which continues to preserve and celebrate the pioneer spirit. “General Delivery, Borden SK, S0K0N0”.
