Isaac (Ike) Klassen passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years on January 18, 2017 at Central Haven Special Care Home, Saskatoon, SK. He was born December 13, 1926 to Abraham and Helena (Bergen) Klassen on the home farm northwest of Laird, SK. He completed grade 12 at the Laird High School. He was baptized May 30, 1946 at the Tiefengrund Rosenort Mennonite Church. On September 30, 1954 he married Anna (Ann) Derksen. They were blessed with 5 children and made their home in Saskatoon throughout their 62 years of marriage. Ike moved to Saskatoon as a young man finding employment as a salesman and general contractor focused on building homes, barns, and churches. He worked for City Lumber Yards Ltd and Pine Lumber which later became a part of Beaver Lumber where Ike continued to excel in his work. Later he and 3 coworkers formed 2 new companies, Pine City Investments Ltd and NuFab Building Products. Together with Ann he started Klassen Acres Ltd and Dalfi Enterprises Ltd. Ike was a charter member of the Mount Royal Mennonite Church. He served his Lord and Saviour faithfully in a variety of capacities through the church both locally and provincially. He enjoyed a long tenure with Mennonite Trust Ltd serving as President for 6 years. Ike was a humble, gentle, quiet man who lived his life with integrity, generosity and patience. He had an engaging smile and quick wit. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and loyal friend who always enjoyed time that could be spent with those close to him. He was well known for his abilities in math and woodworking. Many happy times with family and friends were spent at the cabin at Sturgeon Lake. Leisure time often found Ike golfing, curling, reading or playing table games. Ike and Ann moved to Trinity Manor in March of 2015. Ike’s health declined in 2016 and as a result he moved to Central Haven Special Care Home January 2017. The family is most grateful for the compassionate care Ike received both at Trinity Manor and at Central Haven. Ike is survived by his wife Ann; five children Brenda (Rick) Hieb of Brookings, SD, Brian (Susan) Klassen of Red Deer, AB, Donald (Laurie) Klassen of Saskatoon, Donna (Mike) Petri of Kamloops, BC, and Valerie (Steve) Hoock of Delta, BC; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and siblings Elizabeth Friesen, Benno (Joan) Klassen, John ( Norma) Klassen and Margaret (Bernie) Neufeld. Ike was preceded in death by his parents Abraham and Helena; brothers Peter, Jacob, George (Roberta), and Abram; and sisters Helen Klassen, Nettie (Peter) Wiebe, Tina (Jake) Janzen and Mary (George) Adrian. Memorial Service 11:30 AM Saturday Feb. 4 2017 at Mount Royal Mennonite Church, 610 Ave O North, Saskatoon, SK.
