Our beautiful mother passed from this life on February 14, 2017. She was born in Warman, Saskatchewan on May 16, 1929 to Peter J. and Katherina (Siemens) Friesen. She was the second youngest of eight siblings, and was especially devoted to her sisters as they grew up together following their mother’s early death. Mom attended school in Warman and Clark’s Crossing. Friendships formed in those early years continued to this day.
As a teenager, mom trained as a maternity nurse with the local country doctor. Years later, after raising her children, she picked up this thread, returning to school to become a licensed practical nurse. The remainder of her working life was dedicated to nursing and she treasured those years.
Mom married Edward Fisher in 1947. After brief sojourns in British Columbia and Calgary, they returned to Warman. Another move took them to Martensville. After our dad’s passing in 1993, mom’s fierce independence enabled her to remain in her own home until the last few months of her life.
Mom was the loving and generous heart of our family, as well as a steadfast and loyal friend to many. Her resilience and perseverance brought her through setbacks and disappointments. Above all, mom’s faith in a loving Saviour sustained her throughout her life, including during the difficult final weeks. She tried valiantly to recover her strength, but when it became obvious that this was not to be, she rested in the knowledge that all was well with her soul.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her: parents; husband Edward; beloved firstborn son Kenneth; brothers Jack, Harry and John; sisters Katherine, Helen and Margaret. She is survived by: sons Sheldon (Bonnie) and Garth (Claire); daughter Kathleen; grandchildren Matt (Dawn), Lara (Byron), Eric (Jennifer), Devin and Sophia; great grandchildren Gwyneth and Nicholas; and dear sister Anna.
